What will it cost? Nothing, LocalAds is free for private individuals and communities. It is also free for businesses!
What happens if I change my mind? There is no obligation to sell your
listed item on LocalAds. Your Ad is simply letting the world know that you have
something to sell. If you sell an item or change your mind, just cancel the ad.
I already use eBay, why should I use LocalAds? LocalAds is not an auction site, it was designed specifically to suit the classified ads market, in affect it is an electronic version of the ads board typically found in your local newsagent, college, work etc. LocalAds is also a lot cheaper (free) and simpler to use. If in doubt place an in both systems!
How is a sale made? If a buyer wishes to purchase an item or perhaps find out more information, they click on the link "Ask Seller" which allows the buyer to send an email to the seller detailing their question and or offer. LocalAds recommends that the seller never displays their email directly on their Ad as the "Ask Seller" feature allows buyers to contact sellers without the need of the seller disclosing their email address. However, there is nothing to stop other contact information, such as telephone number, being listed in the Ad - it is totally down to the sellers preference. Once the sale is agreed, the buyer and seller will liaise directly to arrange payment and delivery. Buyers can also "Make an Offer" should the seller have activated this option when placing an Ad. The "Make an Offer" is no more than that, where the buyer can contact the seller via email with a counter offer. The seller is under no obligation to accept.
How do I respond to an email from a buyer? That is entirely up to you! If it is an offer to goods or services you have advertised you can decide whether to accept, or perhaps even make a counter off. If it a question, then obviously you respond as appropriate.
It is also worth stating that you are under no obligation sell your goods or services - this is not ebay, no contract has been made. All that is happened is that two interested parties have been brought together.
How is the item paid for? You decide the payment option best for you. This may well depend on whether the goods are being picked up in person or sent via mail. For example if an item is picked up in person the payment will typically be:
In Cash
Building Society Cheque (for larger, more expensive items)
Cleared Funds
Whereas over the internet, depending whether the seller is a private individual or a business, common methods of payment are:
Money Order
Personal or Building Society Cheque
Direct Deposit
Credit Card
PayPal
Nochex
It is important to note that the transaction is always between you and the buyer / seller. LocalAds is not part of the process - we merely bring buyers and sellers together.
Who pays for delivery of the item? Generally, the buyer pays for postage and delivery however, you may choose to use this as a negotiating tool. The decision is yours.
